The Joint Committee on Reserves Evaluator Training was formed in 2006. These five sponsors are:

The history of the SPE began well before its actual establishment. During the decade after the 1901 discovery of the Spindletop field, the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME) saw a growing need for a forum in the booming new field of petroleum engineering. As a result, AIME formed a standing committee on oil and gas in 1913.
In 1922, the committee was expanded to become one of AIME’s 10 professional divisions. The Petroleum Division of AIME continued to grow throughout the next three decades. By 1950, the Petroleum Division had become one of three separate branches of AIME, and in 1957 the Petroleum Branch of AIME was expanded once again to form a professional society.
The first SPE Board of Directors meeting was held 6 October 1957, making 2007 the 50th anniversary year for SPE as a professional society.

The premier conference that is organized by the World Petroleum Council is called the World Petroleum Congress. Starting in 1933, the congress was held every four years until 1991, with a 14-year hiatus in between because of World War II. After 1991, it was held every three years until the year 2000.

SEG was founded in 1930 in Houston, Texas but its business office has been headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma since the mid-1940s.

Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers - де-факто самая молодая, но и самая требовательная к своим членам структура из перечисленных выше.
Когда говорят о ресурсах сланцевой нефти и газа в США, показывая сотни триллионов кубических футов, надо посмотреть на тип этих ресурсов: зачастую его нет не только в самой жесткой типологии SEC, но и в более мягкой классификации 2007 SPE/WPC/AAPG/SPEE, созданной еще до сланцевого бума :)
